Plum Island "Blown all to He//"
Past experience has shown me that Plum Island takes its vacation for the month of August, packing its wind and icy whitecap breakers and greenhead flies, and departing for parts unknown. I was looking forward to long sandy beaches and sand bars, sunny warmth, calm meditative paddling, the calls of p...

Last-minute posting, heading to Plum Island tomorrow morning early. Would welcome company. Expecting to launch around 8, poke around the area, Crane's Beach, Essex River, Plum Island, until lunchtime. Nothing epic, haven't been in my boat enough to do anything epic. PM me if interested. Can't offer ...

I velcro mine to the center of the floor. Plenty of room there, and it doesn't get in the way of entering/exiting. Velcro lasts for a season, then sometimes loses the grip on the hull. Pretty cheap to replace though.

What a good idea. I'll take up the challenge and post one next summer, possibly to the north shore (far from great whites...).

Anyone want to go surf the new inlet? m Oh no! Too close to home! (although the description is not necessarily of a great white.... and the capture of a seal is really doubtful...) Not at all thrilled about this. Take me to the river! Those rivers have got to be pretty dry right about now...

Well done, you two! With a forecast of 3-6 feet, that area would give me pause. Best spot for clean waves is where you looked, on the inside of the island where the waves wrap around. Every now and then they are just right at that spot. Elsewhere it can be pretty rough and rocky. I wouldn't have tho...

Are they not the coolest sea creatures going? I was so excited to see one for the first time last year. Came up next to my boat, same as for you. Hard to imagine, Mark, that they could leap out of the water. They seem like the sloths of the sea.

Tiny Trip Report - Scorton's Creek, Sandwich
You can park here, on the Cape, for free. No, really. It's about a 1-mile paddle to open water. If you turn right, there are sand dunes and lots of beach and then Sandy Neck Park. Which is sand dunes and lots of beach. Waves were 1 to 3. Inches. I didn't make it all the way to Barnstable Harbor. I w...

Secret Trips: The Right Choice?
I've noticed that the Upcoming Trips section has been verrrrry quiet this year. Nevertheless, I wonder about the reason for trips u...

When Mark and I lived in Braintree for a year, we also "discovered" this lake. Jordan and Chip and Ron and others were kind enough to give it a try as the new, improved Hanson alternative, but as summer warmed up it quickly became obvious that this pond wasn't what we'd hoped. It's shallow...
