Re: Mystic River Info???
I paddled from lower Mystic Pond downriver but not all the way to the locks. I don't remember the turn-around point but it was a nice half-day trip. It was deep enough water, no problem. I don't remember what time of year but we've had lots of rain lately so I think you'll be okay.

Is not a kayak a trailerable boat? I would have felt free to use the ramp, esp. off season.
Nice report, Norm. You've had an incredibly active paddling year, for an employed guy!

The mouth of the Narrows in RI also has nice standing waves. 41.44115, -71.44178 on google maps. IIRC, outgoing tide is best. Easy access from the bridge on 1A. This is a good learning spot, IMO. Brayton's Point is a long paddle from Gooseberry Is. if you are not Mark. And, it is eye-popping surfing...

I duct-tape it in until I'm sure it's how I want it, then seal it in permanently. You can alway file it down if the shape isn't quite right. And it is possible to rip the whole thing out if you really want to do away with it. I don't know of any semi-permanent glue - honestly I wouldn't trust it to ...

Many folks consider the North Water Sea Tec as "the one to get". It's about $125 though. They also offer the Micro Tow which is about half the cost and half the size. I think rope quality, the float and the bungee are the reasons for the price difference. http://www.northwater.com/html/pr...

Floating in the WeeWee, a Four-Star Flush 5/26/12
With a forecast of 10-15 kt winds from the SSW and a lovely day, Mark suggested we try a one-way trip, setting shuttle at West Island on Buzzard's Bay and catching the wind-waves to the Weweantic River, 15 miles away. It would be a straight shot up the Bay in open water. Seemed like a good idea, so ...

Last minute post for a trip out to New Inlet from the Herring River (Driftway) put-in. Launch at noon. Out to the inlet to look for easy surf. Hi Briggsy, It's been my (limited) experience that the outer side is usually dumping waves (usually bigger than in your photo) and weird sideways current and swell. Gasp reflex seems to me to be associated with cold water on head/neck. Drysuit can't protect from this, but a hood or tuilik would do it.
