Has anyone ever planned and had an enjoyable kayak experience attending the Grand Parade of Sail or been able to get close enough to them in the harbor while they are at dock?
They will be in Boston June 17th-22nd. I'm considering making an attempt this year and would like as much info as possible.

I went out to the smaller parade with a few people a couple years ago and watched the parade from Spectacle Island. Did I do a trip report? I was thinking of doing that again. Let's talk early in the week when I get back from my trip.

Hi Ken
Chris Crosby and myself visited the Tall Ships when they were in 2009
We put in at Castle Island at high tide. Almost didn't get in because of the park rangers but we convinced them we knew what we were doing

We paddled along the South Boston industrial docks. The back splash from the docks and the pleasure boat traffic created a some what bumpy ride.

Once we got to the area where the ships were tied up, the Coast Guard let in boats to circulate around and we followed them.
They would not allow us access to the next set of piers

Same bumpy ride back and we put in at Carson Beach and the walk the boats back

I couldn't get the pictures to go in order. All the picture are in reverse order

Thanks Gary, I'm surprised you were able to get so close.

I agree that we would not be able to pull this off today
They were most concerned about the amount of pleasure boat traffic
But since we made it that far they let us in
