Duxbury Bay

Post by pat »

I'm just throwing this one out on the porch to see if the cat laps it up.

Duxbury Bay - Monday, Aug 8.

Here's what I'm thinking. Summer weekends can be pretty busy for people. Getting a free weekend day is tricky. Maybe it'd be easier for people to just plan to play hookey for a day. Also, if it's not a weekend, we may have fewer pleasure powerboats to deal with.

This is the trip that I suggested some time ago. I originally suggested a one-way shuttle deal, but shuttling is pretty globally distasteful to everyone, so we'll make it a round trip. Leave from Powder Point Bridge, head south down the Duxbury Coast and then cross the bay (1.5 mi) to Clarks Island. Then follow the inland shore of Saquish and Gurnet back to Powder Point. If anyone has a good reason to go clockwise rather than counter-, I'm all ears.

High tide is approx 2:30, which is pretty convenient. Total trip length - 10 mi.

Just did this one with my brother on Saturday afternoon. Included the Back River, Bluefish River, and Eagles Nest Bay. Long afternoon...but it was wonderful. Weather and conditions were fantastic.

Finn, did you cross the bay from Clarks Island to the mainland?

I rearranged my vacation time to include this day (but it won't matter if it doesn't happen).

My other weekdays off are: 8/12, 8/14, 8/26, 8/28
I may be going away on some of these days but I might be able to sneak in a trip here or there.

The weekends of the 6th and 20th are almost definites for kayak trips.

Pat,

what time are you thinking about launching? I may be able to actually do this trip.

1pm might not be a bad time. That'd put high tide right in the midst of the trip.

I should be able to do this trip. I will make sure I don't schedule in any other appointments for that day.

Pat,

I "drive" a WS Tempest. If you come to the pond tomorrow look for 2 people with all yellow boats. I will be the one having difficulty rolling while the other does it effortlessly. My kids will also be there.
If Monday's paddle falls through, let me know.

Pat,

Sorry to hear about your Dodge. After reading the posts, it looks as though Monday's trip to Duxbury has changed to Dorchester Bay. And now it looks like it will take place over the weekend.
I am already scheduled to paddle down the Cape Saturday. I am unsure if I can get out on the water Sunday. So perhaps our paths will cross some other time.
