End of Season - Roll off

Post by kayakerjnj »

Greetings All,

We've had an astoundingly great season this year in Hanson.

I can confidently say we've had more folks, more regulars, more participation, and best of all, more skill achievement than I can recall in any other year.

A big debt of gratitude to Chris Rolt, our resident Sensei rolling guru and all around great guy! He's worked his magic with so many this season, finding new ways to help folks achieve their skills goals.

So many others members have participated, and helped each other during the afternoons at Kiwanee, its been exactly what we've hoped for!

Most of all, our Thursdays have been a great deal of fun!

The end of the season is looming. Last night the water, starting loosing it's abundantly warm temperature, reminded us we'll need to pull out our cold water attire soon.

With that being said, our yearly Roll Off has yet to be scheduled. Some folks have been really focusing their efforts to get their new skills honed and muscle memory imprinted every week.

I would suggest we plan the Roll OFF, two weeks from now, September 25th, or if there's enough interest to sneak it in a week earlier on the 18th.

I will leave that to the people who wish to participate, throwing their boats over, and over and over again

There's was a further suggestion to break up into two groups, those who got their roll this year, and the other group for those who previous to this season started their rolling careers. Its sounded like a fun way for everyone to participate.

I have a feeling we'll need a few time keepers and people who would be willing to Video our silly human tricks with sticks, and peanut butter spreaders.

In closing, I wanted to thank everyone for another fun season of skills and club camaraderie.

I would like to vote for the 25th of September, for the roll off.
I will not be able to be in Hanson this Thursday the 18th.
But, if the majority of the regulars would like it this coming Thursday,
I completely understand and will sadly miss watching all you rolling fools.

I might actually be able to watch on the 25th so that would be good for me. Not sure my vote counts since I am not participating.

Hi everyone

I can't get to either location before 6pm and I'm sure you will be either on the water or done rolling. Have fun and I will look forward to next season.

Well, I'll try to make it, although I'll stand a better chance in a drown-off and n in a roll-off.
Seriously, I'll show up, try a few rolls and catch up with folks.

Work is going to preempt my Thursday this week.

I'm bummed I won't be able to join the group in our annual Roll Fest

Keep your heads down, and hip snap for me

Weather Underground shows that rain and cool temps may preempt the fun of the Thursday night festivities also. Right now the forecast is for 92% chance of rain, air temp of 60 degrees and 13mph winds at 5:00pm.

I'll still plan to be there.

Jordan saw me getting rolling tips from Chris and now fears to meet me on the battlefield.

Pat - are you insinuating that I'm trying to scare people off to reduce the competition in the "newby" roll-off competition?

Hmm - seems like a high melt rate...

Can we get a headcount of who's planning to come before I put the boat on the car tonight?

Sounds like a pretty miserable weather and I can't really get my head around a Roll Off competition without Jordon. Maybe try for next week?

Tonight A chance of rain, mainly before 3am. Patchy fog between 7pm and 8pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 54. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

"New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible."

I like the optimism. The weather forecast site I watch has improved the forecast from what they had yesterday. I have my boat on my truck and plan to be there. I don't really care about the roll-off competition, but I would like to do a few rolls since its been a couple weeks since I last practiced.

So since I am new I was going to just go and watch the roll off but thinking I might bring my kayak if people might do skills or just kayak.
Look forward to meeting people.

Ohhhh, All Right!!!

If the rain is not too bad, will practice rolling.
I do not have my Delphin for the roll-off.
I did manage a roll in my Valley this past weekend, so
I will be looking for some help, oh Mighty Mentor Chris.

Sorry you can't make it Jordan.

See everyone else there.
No PPR for me tonight.

So does anyone mind if we postpone the actual competition until next week? We can still get together and practice.

Josko - there was talk last week about having the roll-off this week, on October 2nd. I think we should start a new thread to discuss the issue so that it is clear what day and where we are going to go on October 2nd. I will do that now.
