Cape Cod part 1 Weds 25th May 2011

Post by Briggsy »

I am aiming this year (probably continuing next year!!) to circumnavigate Cape Cod in small stages. So, on Weds 25th May, weather permitting I plan on launching from Monument Beach in Bourne, stage 1 is to paddle down to Megansett Harbor by way of Bassetts Is. Looks like its about 10 miles and could be a little exposed rounding the 2 peninsulas en route so no rec boats.Water will still be COLD!!!!! We would need to arrange shuttles. I can squeeze 5 kayaks on my truck just for short distances.
Anyone interested??? (If not looks like the old bicycle shuttle!!)
Thanks for looking , Briggsy

That sounds like a fun project. I think if you bee line it a little more, you can get down to Sippwessit, or Woods Hole is 14 miles. I've got Weds off if you're looking for someone to paddle with, and we can work out a shuttle as well.

I'm in no rush to do it and wanted to explore the harbors so thats why the twisty route. Pt 2 will be down to Quisset, then pt3 round woods hole to somewhere on the south coast. From there on its straight line paddling. Of course that could all change depending on who shows up.
Do you mean you have this weds(18th) off or the following weds???

Dave,

I'm interested. I can't definitely commit right now, but I'm pretty sure I will join you. I've never paddled in that area. I can carry 3 kayaks on the top of my truck if I adjust my center support and possibly slide one inside for a short distance.

Sorry to miss it, Briggsy, but I am away that week (and the next).

Keep posting the mid-week trips though, because you might have a few takers...Hope to join you in June.

Briggsy: Do you plan to finish the circumnavigation by paddling through the Canal?

I want to do that.

Yeah, I meant to say "except the canal" ....But how about a night time stealth paddle with the current, should only take about 20 mins!!

I understand it is possible to arrange an escorted trip through the canal for non-motorized vessels. I don't know anyone personally that has done this.

Briggsy,

I got the day off from work Wednesday so I can join you on this trip. I could probably switch my day off to Thursday if the weather forecast is better.

I plan to launch around 10am from Monument Beach in Bourne. If anyone is interested in joining me, we should try to meet about 9am to shuttle although this is flexible. Forecast so far is patchy fog and possible showers...... Unless there are T-storms forecast I shall be going. I have a friend offering to shuttle me if I am alone so let me know here by 4pm Tuesday at the latest.

Hi Briggsy, would like to join you, however the AMC has a paddle around West Island that day and I should attend. It's too bad as I live right in North Falmouth, Fiddler's Cove which is about a half mile west of Megansett Harbor. May I suggest that due to parking restrictions in the Monument Beach area, that if you run into problems use Monk's Cove which is about 3/4 of a mile south of your put in.

Thanks for the tip Gif. I was sure the parking restrictions didn't start till Memorial Day, I am going down to check it out before work today.
Enjoy your day

Briggsy - I hope you're ok and can enjoy your birthday tomorrow. Happy Birthday!

Gif - I hear you were not feeling well either today. Get well soon.

There, I just saved $10 on get well and birthday cards. :)

Now I gotta go put some aloe on my arms because I got sun-burnt paddling around West Island today with the AMC.
