Sunset / Moonrise At The Spit - Friday - 8/12/11 6:00pm

Post by norm »

The full moon is Saturday, but the long-range weather forecast is for clouds to start moving back in, so Friday night looks like a better choice right now. Also, I think the tide is better Friday - it is low at 5:30, so if we launch at 6:00, we'll be paddling on a rising tide with less mud to avoid.

The plan is to meet at the Driftway at 5:30pm and launch at 6:00. The paddle to the spit is about 1.5 miles, so we should be able to get there in about 30-45 minutes to settle in to enjoy the evening. (I'm planning to bring a chair.) We'll stay till after dark, so lighting for your boat is a good idea if you have something...a headlamp at the minimum. Bring a jacket - the temperature will cool down as the sun goes down.

If you don't know where the Driftway is, you can use the following address in your GPS or on Google maps: 220 Driftway, Scituate, MA.

This is a pretty easy paddle, but confidence in your paddling is needed - you don't want to tip over in the mud!

Please reply if you plan to attend, so we'll know who is coming and can wait if necessary. Send me a PM if you would like my cell-phone number.

Where's the "Spit?" I'm not familiar with the area.

Gif - the "Spit" is a sand bar at the mouth of the North River. Here is a google maps link of the location of the spit:

Notice all the boats lined up along the shore. It's a bit of a party place. Surprised you don't know of it? Guess you didn't party on the south shore back in your partying days?

Going to try to make it, but do not wait for me. I may be late, and I know the area very well, so I can just meet you out on the spit. Just keep an eye out for a wooden kayak.

Hi Norm,
I won't be able to make the paddle tonight. I'm sorry for the late notice. I hope you get this in time and aren't waiting. I hope to make it another time.

I'll let Norm know, if he hasn't had a chance to check the forum. We'll miss you, Maureen.
