Thursday Daytime Paddle - 3/22/12
A few of us are working on a plan for a mid-day paddle on Thursday. So far Sue, Briggsy and I are planning to go. This will probably be a fairly long paddle for the early season, like 10 to 15 miles. We are not certain where we are going yet, but I thought I'd post the date in case others are interested in joining us. The trip thoughts so far are either Boston Harbor or Pleasant Bay in Chatham.
Of course proper cold water gear and rescue skills are required. The water was icy cold yesterday!

We have decided to do our trip in Boston waters. We'll be launching from Lane's Beach in North Weymouth at 10:00am.
We'll have to see how the wind is, but I've come up with a rough plan to take a spin around the whole area, hitting Hingham Bay, Boston Harbor and Quincy Bay, with stops on Lovells Island and possibly Spectacle Island also. If Thursday is anything like last Saturday, there won't be any boat traffic to worry about in the channels, making the route selection simpler. It may be a little long for early in the season, but we can trim it here and there if needed. I chose a route that keeps us within about a mile of shore at all times.
Here's a picture of a route I've laid out.
High Tide is about noon, so we should be reaching Hull Gut right about slack water time.
If we just take a walk across Lovells to the eastern shore, we should be able to give Briggsy a distant view of all our local areas that he's been reading about in trip reports.

Wish I had a good excuse to get out of work. Not gonna happen, have a great paddle! Don't forget to hydrate, you guys are gonna be stinkers after wearing dry suits on a 80 deg. day.

Water temps in the mid 40s already. Should be able to lose the dry suits early this year.

I think dry suits were invented by women after seeing us in wet suits.

I don't know. I think the licorice stick stuffed with a wildebeast look is a pretty sexy.

We ran into a guy off the eastern point of Long Island in a 9' rec kayak in a t-shirt and with his life jacket unbuckled. So I guess we were just overdressed. You don't need no stinkin' dry suits out there! Thousands of dollars wasted on fancy gear and I could have just done all this in my rec kayak?
Sorry nobody else was able to join us out there today. It was fantastic. Trip report will probably take a few days to complete.

We're covering more than the waterfronts...we've circled a few islands too. Here's the GPS tracks of the 2012 trips I've been on so far.

Norm, I hope you don't mind doing some of these twice. Otherwise, many of us might not see you much. You guys are doing all the trips already. lol

I don't mind doing everything multiple times. I'd like to do some more stopping and hiking around the islands this year too, now that I don't have a lot of knee pain.

It even looks like Jordan is willing to get out of his boat and walk around this year.
