Ah, so that's a beach right at the end, gotcha. Ayup, did a search and got a few threads about launching from Ned's Point, thanks. Definitely on the list for at least one day this coming weekend. Will post something up once plans gel and see if anybody else is interested closer to the weekend. Thank...

marine weather

So experienced folks, where do you go to get marine weather information and how do you extrapolate out from given forecast/buoy information for your particular area? I've been using this page, m, to get the basics. I know the simple stuff like the more exposed water there is from a given wind direct...

Thanks for the quick feedback about Duxbury, and the advice on Ned's Point. Taking a look at a sat photo, I take it that's the parking lot with a boat ramp there at the, err, point? I would like at least a few feet of water under me, not so much for the rudder but the paddle. Very delicate, somethin...

Duxbury Bay/Ned's Point 7/26-7/27 parking and general info.

Well, I've tried Hingham Harbor, thanks for all the tips folks. Would like to give Duxbury Bay a shot this weekend. High tide is early in the morning and early evening. How are the water levels in the bay on the ocean-side of the bridge at low tide? Any problem parking in what looks to be a small lo...

Swim and Fin Race 7/19...conditions

Anybody here race in it? I got my butt kicked out near the Salem Harbor entrance buoy. Just curious if anybody is familar with the Salem Harbor area/was at the race. Along with the decent breeze kicking up some good-sized chop (some breaking waves), boat wakes from all different directions/sizes mad...

Bunch of NECKRA folks sometimes paddle at Walden Monday evenings at 5:30. Try out boats/practice. They race Wednesday evenings 6:30 at Newton Canoe and Kayak.

Noob in Hingham Harbor

Took the day off after being in the car for 7+ hours yesterday. Bummed that rain was in the forecast, and just as I went to check the radar, I heard a rumble. But the skies cleared and the V10S went on the car for the 40 minute drive to the beach. First the bad news. My three times out paddle has on...

GPS and VHF Radio for n00b

So as I start to get ready to do ocean paddling, been thinking about a GPS and VHF radio...maybe. Only going to be doing day trips and races, so a non-mapping GPS should work, combined with laminated marine and/or google earth maps and a normal ol' compass for back-up. Will probably be using the GPS...

Curious how I will handle chop. Confused motorboat wake on 7/4 didn't bother me much at all, even got to surf on the wake of one for a mile or so. It was strange to have the initial stern wave a few feet ahead of my bow and have it stay there. Have more trouble with a bad stroke with a wing paddle.....

So I'm probably going to head over to Hingham harbor Saturday and Monday, probably 7AM-11AM on Saturday and 9AM-noon on Monday. High tide is 7:40ish Saturday and 9:30ish Monday, so I hope the muck isn't too bad a few hours past high while landing. Drive a red Subaru wagon, so take a look for it in t...

How crowded parking Hingham beach Saturday

Thinking of heading over to Hingham harbor for some practice Saturday, just wondering what the parking situation is on a Saturday? Figure a weekday it isn't an issue even during the summer?

7/12 and 7/14 easy ocean paddle?

Anybody up for getting out in the ocean next Saturday or Monday? Looking to try to get my sea legs on a surfski, so an easy spot to launch/land would be good, with the option for some more challenging conditions during the paddle would be great. Looks like a fairly early high tide. Any issues once o...

Looking for semi-protected body of water

Greetings, Getting a surfski soon, and while on flatwater I am fine, going to need some practice in little bumps before working up to the big bumps. With that said, would love to find a place that offers some 1'-2' chop so I can get a feel of waves hitting broadside and rear quarter. Thinking larger...

Being more rugby player than rower in build, the V10 Sport's seat almost fits. Will try the EVO as well.

Anybody have a surfski

One blew by me in a race surfing off wake. A little research later and it appears not only are they very fast and good for flatwater racing, but could be used for day trips out in the open ocean.

Going to try some of the more forgiving models within a week, just curious if anybody has one here.

Greetings! Looking to do my first overnight trip with my Manitou 13. I'm an intermediate canoeist an...
