Re: If anyone is interested in lessons this season

Pat, if there is enough interest for a group we could get 3 more people, otherwise we can get out for a private lesson whenever is convenient for you. Let me know what works for you, the water is still freaky cold so immersion gear is a really good idea.
I'll put a schedule together this week.

If anyone is interested in lessons this season

I'm going to offer instruction on my own this year. For anyone from the beginner looking to learn basic strokes and some good rescue techniques, to more experienced paddlers looking to expand their comfort zone in rough or moving water, I can work with you to get the most out of your paddling experi...

Briggsy welcome back! Postponed this until the 21st because of the rain and a few other issues. Right now the report is for a clear weekend, will see if it changes. Would be great to have you along.

Anyone interested in a Snowvernight?

Thinking of taking advantage of the snow (once the ice breaks) and going winter camping out on a nearby harbor island, Bumpkin perhaps or if it's really clear Lovell Island. Get to the campsite early afternoon to set up a nice camp, get some good food going, maybe dig a fire pit for a quick evening ...

Re: Do you Tether?

Surf kayakers use a seat belt to buckle themselves into the boat, but that's a totally different animal. It means you have an additional step to the wet exit, which can be difficult if you're getting thrashed. I'd be hesitant to tether myself to an 18 foot boat getting worked in water I can't stay u...

New Year Day Paddle?

Thinking of getting out in the boat either new year day or Saturday, depending on how the weather looks. Will probably head out of Cohasset, hug the shore and head up to Nantasket but most likely just Black Rock and back. 11am meet at the parker ave put in, in the water before noon, back by 2ish. Co...

Going to check out Little Harbor to play in some eddy lines on the incoming tide, wait until the tide turns, then maybe check out Minot.

Cold water gear, appropriate boat, skills and helmet please.

I think I saw it's $33 per person. I would assume they don't want sand dirt leaves in their pool, so long as you're not pig pen you should be OK.

Re: Great White Shark Attacks Kayakers In Plymouth

Maybe I'll get seal decals for the bottom of whomever's boat I happen to be paddling with. Hopefully I'm worked up over nothing, people on the west coast have been dealing with them forever. I'm just glad I got the majority of my swimming over with a few years ago, but we all are just between swims.

The girls who got knocked out of their kayaks were shooting with a go pro, so I think that debunks that theory. I'm just thinking of all those seals out by Minot light that come back in this time of year, must be like a buffet, I just don't want to be mistaken as an appetizer.

Been there (Hingham harbor) and done that. It is best to sit tight and wait for the water to return rather than sacrifice footwear to the muck.

A deal on craigslist, Boreal Designs Ellesmere

I need a new boat like I need a hole in my head, and I probably don't fit in it anyways, but saw this and thought someone might snatch it up. $900 for a good composite boat! http://boston.craigslist.org/nos/boa/4594649422.html
