Sunday 7-26 Skills Session @ Hanson Camp Kiwanee

Post by kayakerjnj »

Greetings,

We had some interest for our skills sessions, but the weather hasn't cooperated.

We're going to try again this coming Sunday @ 11 AM.

Bring your boats and some good weather for a couple hours of practice.

Cheers,

Jordan

Some may not be exactly familiar with our Hanson practice location at Camp Kiwanee, so here's where it's located.

Will definitely be present.

Anybody have a tow rope and willing to do some assisted practice/maybe spend some time in the water and see if I can tow a person with a surfski?

Well that race was a friggin' bust.. Grr..

Anyway, cool on the tow rope practice.

Will be bringing my cheap little waterproof camera. Underwater video of rolling and wet exits perhaps? Maybe cool above/below water action shots showing how well turkeys take to water?

Pretty obvious where the parking/put-in is? Haven't been to a Thursday evening skill session yet...

Once you turn on to the camp road off route 58, you follow it through the steel gate (1/3) mile, and the pond and parking area is on the left. We use the dirt boat ramp to launch our boats. We stay clear of the roped of swimming area.

Cheers,

A very productive day in Hanson today!

Both Chris and Cindy, did awesome today, perfoming some wet exits, self and assisted rescues. Even managed one bow rescue too!

It turned out to be a nice afternoon, with some sun and warm temps.

Norm, Skip, and Brian came by too! :D

Thanks for the Sunday session - it turned out to be a great idea. The weather was too flaky to go anywhere else but turned out perfect for practicing at Camp Kiwanne. Good to see everybody get wet and practice multiple types of rescues. A nice day to paddle and swim.

Thanks so much to Jordan for the great training and to everyone for the confidence boost! I do have a few bruises from hitting the high-backed seat in my Necky Manitou on all those self-rescues but they were definitely worth it!!

It's great to have some faces to go with the posts :D

Thanks again to all!
