Thursday - October 22 - Hull Lecture

Post by norm »

There is an event organized by the Hull Lifesaving Museum on this Thursday night, about Shipwrecks on the Stellwagen Bank. Sounds interesting to me. See the information below.

Nantasket Beach Lecture Series
Shipwrecks of Stellwagen Bank with Matthew Lawrence
Thursday, October 22, 2015, 7:00 pm
Nantasket Beach Resort
45 Hull Shore Drive, Hull, MA
Free, Donations Welcome

Nantasket Beach Lecture Series will celebrate Massachusetts Archaeology Month with marine archaeologist Matthew Lawrence discussing his research on historic shipwrecks in the sanctuary, including the steamship Portland, wrecked in the infamous Portland Gale of November, 1898. Stellwagen Bank sanctuary encompasses historic shipping routes and fishing grounds used for the past 400 years. During that time, New England''s stormy weather and the density of traffic passing between Cape Cod and Cape Ann have led to hundreds of shipwrecks. Sanctuary research has begun to tell these stories through archaeological investigation. Join us as Matthew Lawrence peers into the past with stories of these shipwrecks, historic photographs, and underwater video that will let you virtually "walk their decks.""
Signed copies of the recently published "Shipwrecks of Stellwagen Bank: Disaster in New England's National Marine Sanctuary" will be available to purchase from the author.
