Weepecket Island Trip - Saturday July 14 - 9:00 AM Launch
Greetings All,
Linda Burke and I wanted to plan a trip the Weepecket Islands and hope this will appeal to those seeking a fun day on the open water .
This has lots of opportunity to play in plenty of "textured" water and current along the proposed route.
FYI, this is not sight seeing flatwater paddle, its a no nonsense sea kayaking trip requiring anyone participating to have all the requisite equipment and saftey practice already well in hand. As always each participant is responsible for their own safety and good judgement.
So keep in mind the Thursday Skill Sessions; they are for anyone having some doubts or for those of us who just enjoy getting better at their safety and boat handling skills. C'mon down and get some practice in so you can participate and enjoy these great open water trips safely.
Here's the route we're planning. http://mysite.verizon.net/vzeseb67/site ... _route.jpg
The plan is to launch early as parking is tight in Quissett Harbor, 9:00 AM Launch, that means arrival around 8:15 to ensure a timely departure.
Directions for Quissett Harbor parking below.
Take Route 28 towards Falmouth and go straight off the highway until you hit Woods Hole Rd.
1. Continue straight on the road to Woods Hole.
2. Take a right at the traffic lights onto Quissett Harbor Road.
3. Stop at the 4 way intersection, but go straight thru.
4. The parking spaces are on the right. Parking is limited so the earlier you get there, the more likely you will get a space. We can shuttle over from Trunk River parking lot (on Shore Drive) if spaces run out.
We hope for a really enjoyable, and fun day.
Best to all,
Jordan

Hey Finn,
It seems these days, people want to attend their friends grad parties. Kids and Parents. There are a group of parents I know that planned out thier parties into August to not overlap. Crazy stuff.
My son graduates Saturday and has his party Saturday. Then I am done. I know I will be able to paddle this year. I just know it.

Hey Jordan: I'm sure you have consulted that nifty Excel spreadsheet that you got from somebody at the Kayak Expo, but from your map I couldn't tell which leg was out and which was back, so just wanted to make sure you had the currents through Northwest Gutter factored in. Or maybe that was some of the "textured water" experience that you were referring to.
New Moon that day, too. Sweet!
Plan to spend some quality time on the beach as Weepecket, as it is one of the best. And keep an eye out for the nudies!

Collaborative Effort on this one
Mark,
First, I hope you'll be coming on this one! Second we can tailor the route to optimize the play time based on where might be the best spots to play. All input and suggestions, particularly from those who've played extensively in these spots are both welcome and encouraged to help tailor the day for the best play.

Very cool to have so much great company!
Quisset is tight during the season. Let's park on the first block of parking slots on our right as you come down Quisset Harbor Rd. If there is a shortage of spots, we can always shuttle over from the trunk river lot on the other side of the spit.
If any of you are coming from the same area it might be advantageous to carpool.

This is the parking location for the 7/14 trip to the Weepeckets http://www.savebuzzardsbay.org/bayinfo/ ... slands.jpg
It is probably best to plan as much car pooling as possible. Let's hope for some great paddling weather. Please plan to be at the parking area at 8:15 AM. We need to launch at 9:00 AM Sharp.
Cheers,
Jordan

Head Count
Hi All,
In an effort to get an updated headcount as Saturday quickly approaches, please let us know if you're still planning to attend. It will also help coordinate some potential car pooling too
Have a great rest of the week.
See you Saturday!

Still ON
It's truly too early to think about altering the plan based on weather forecast 3 days out. Friday we will look at all the predicted conditions and advise accordingly.
Thanks for keeping an eye on the weather and conditions!
Cheers,
Jordan

My Judgement Call-
Think it best to "GO EASY" at first- arm is still sore... I have to pass on Sat. trip... reluctantly (again). Probably in the best interest of the group, too! Have a GREAT PADDLE YA ALL!

Looks like the fickle weather gods have decided to give you guys a break. Shaping up to be a fine day.
I won't be joining this one, unfortunately; my summer bachelor days are drawing to a close in a few weeks....and I've got to accomplish some major work around the house and property that I've been putting off. Anyone who would rather build stone walls and storage racks instead of going on another boring kayak trip is quite welcome to stop by and join the "fun."
Have a great day...and take good pictures, as always.

Hi Folks,
Jordan asked me to give you all an update of the weather for tomorrow. Looks like we could have some winds out of the southwest at 10-15 mph in the afternoon and gust up to 20mph so be prepared for a fair amount of texture.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.

hrrrm. I'd love to tackle some 3 footers, but I think the smarter thing to do is stick around home base and build up more endurance. I hate to admit any shortcomings on my part, but with the wind forecast I'm thinking better safe than sorry. But this time no one can call me a big wimp! I'll see you guys again in future skills sessions and hingham harbor paddles.
I'll be there . . .
If no one objects to me tagging along, I would like to do this one. (Assuming the weather holds.) It looks like fun. Allison has several errands to take care of tomorrow, and I am really itching to get some paddling in. Looks like an early morning!

So..how did it go?
Well, the porn spammers seem to have made a visit here overnight.
Anyway...let's hear about this trip. I was out off Cohasset and the Scituate Glades yesterday...and it was pretty lively out there. Assumed it was slightly more so down on the cape.
