Three Cornered Pond 10-13-13

Post by Sjroche »

On Sunday, my wife Jean and I traveled down to Miles Standish State Forest to paddle Three Cornered Pond.
Some photos here plus links to Flicker below for more.

It's a small but interesting pond with no real launch area, but we made do. There is a nice beach area along the north shore, separating the pond from Round Pond next door. Skies were mostly cloudy and it was cool, breezy in the 60s - seems like the season is coming to an end.

A Great Blue heron held court, hunting for frogs and fish.

Nice pics. Is that the pond heading over the College pond from headquarters? Small parking spot and launch?

Nice report, Stephen! Thanks for the photos. I'll have to take a trip over there so I can document possible launch spots.

This pond is along the road from HQ to College Pond, but no launch. We had to cross over a wooden guard rail and down a slope to gain access. The pond with launch & parking is New Long Pond, along the same road, but sooner. Quiet water, very nice. The best pond by far is East Head, right at HQ.

One item to note is that these ponds are being taken over by Carolina Fanwort, an invasive plant species. Both East Head and Three Cornered are pretty full of it. Doesn't impact paddling except at very shallow depths.

Thanks all for the kind words on the photography. Just started with it in June, but enjoying thoroughly - goes good with the kayak thing too.

Sounds like the name of some evil woman from a comic book.
