Recreational: Duxbury Back River Creeks - Saturday, June 12
This trip is fully booked.
This is a trip for all skill levels. Expected trip length will be 5-7 miles, depending on options (more on that later). You must arrive at the launch point no later than 8:30 am. High tide is at noon. I'm limiting this trip to 20 paddlers.
As you can see on the map, we'll be launching from the beach near Power Point Bridge, paddling along the shoreline and up one of the creeks and back. Lots of twisty turns, so you folks with the short boats will have a big advantage over sea kayaks. On the return trip, we can head out toward the Duxbury Beach peninsula and paddle back along the bridge. Those who have had enough can bypass this side trip and just head back to the launch if they'd like. For the more serious paddlers out there, feel free to form a small group and venture out into Duxbury Bay toward Saquish and Clarke's Island if you'd like.
For those who have not been on a Wild Turkey Paddlers trip before, you're required to bring your own kayak, paddle and a PFD (life vest). PFDs are required by law.
If you haven't yet, please check out the recreational paddling page:
http://www.wtpaddlers.org/rec.html
This page offers suggestions on what you should bring on your trip.
If you are planning on going on this trip, you must reply to this thread. Do not just show up.
Let me know if you are bringing anyone with you.
If you have any questions about this, please post them in this thread.

I haven't been on a trip with anyone from this group yet, so I am excited to go. My wife and paddling partner will be out of town, but I will be there.

I've heard that there's some interest amongst the more experienced paddlers in doing an extended version of the trip. Anyone who'd like to do that might want to chime in.
Re: Recreational: Duxbury Back River Creeks - Saturday, June 12
I am a probably right now and would do the extended version.

I am a definite no for anything this week. I am on-call for work and will probably also have to work on the weekend.
I hope you get good weather and have a good time.

Hi Pat,
I'm a new member...and paddling enthusiast...and would love to join you in Duxbury on the 12th if there is still room for another paddler.
Also wondering if you might know if there is still a plan to meet in Hanson this evening...considering the weather....
Thanks...
Aimee

There's actually room for five more, but if it's just you, that's ok, too.

I know that it takes a lot for Jordan to cancel a training session, but the weather does look bleak. However, we'd planned on a training session this past Sunday and had to cancel, because the weatheridiots forecast the storm of the century. And as the sun was shining throughout the day, we were all grinding our teeth.
So... I'd say to keep an eye on this forum thread as the day progresses:

Saturday looks to be a banner day! I'm planning to join the group for this excursion...and I may extend the day with the contingent heading out to Saquish.
Sunday...not shaping up so well...but that's according to the good folks at InnacuWeather. The Weather Prophet says wait and see.

Pat,
You mentioned that shorter boats might be better off than sea kayaks on this particular trip. I do have a 10-foot recreational kayak that I usually take up to the Saco in Conway. Would I be better off with that boat than my 16-foot Wildnerness Tsunami, especially since I plan on doing the Reader's Digest version of the trip, not the extended ???

You actually may find the 10' boat easier.
And yes Bea, of course we have room for you.

Thanks, Bea! I'll probably go with a couple at the front and a couple at the rear. We'll work it all out once we're on the water.

Re: Recreational: Duxbury Back River Creeks - Saturday, June 12
Pat,
I hate to do this.... I was so looking forward to this. Put the kayak on my car last night and was ready to roll. But I've been fighting a cold all week with Airborne and woke up this morning with a killer sore throat. I'm so disappointed and I know I'm gonna miss a great trip, but I can't risk missing work on Monday. Have a great time, and I'll look forward to reading all the posts after. I hope you guys do another rec. trip soon.

Hi, some body want to tell me what happen here?
I was at Howland's landing at eighty o'clock and didn't
see ANYBODY!! the sun was out the wave was about
2 inches, and the breeze was about 10.
I looked wonderful. i cna't understand. i don't see
any notices here, or perhaps i missed something?
well, i am home and i am going out into Quincy Bay
that is completely flat. i can get in a few hours any
way. i truly wanted to see all you guys and gals, in
a marsh land, where i feel most comfortable.

John Boy,
I'm not too familiar with the area, but the original post said they were launching from Powder Point Bridge. Is that the same as Howland's landing?
