Hingham to Weir River - Sunday Morning - 6/17/12 - 8:30am

Post by norm »

How about a nice leisurely bird-watching paddle on Sunday morning? High tide is at 10:53 am. The plan is to meet at Hingham boat ramp parking lot at about 8:30am to launch by 9:00am. Paddle around Worlds End and into the Weir River while the tide is still incoming. Explore the river as far as possible and venture up the side creeks and then ride the tide back out. Last year we saw egrets, osprey, oyster catchers and geese. See last years trip report at: http://www.wtpaddlers.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2449

This should be an easy paddle of variable length. A good chance for people who have not been out much to stretch their endurance and take as many on-water breaks as they need while others explore further into the side creeks. The trip length could vary from 7 to 11 miles. We'll probably take one leg-stretch, snack break. I would like to be back at the Hingham take-out by 1:00pm.

Here is a Google Earth picture of the proposed trip:

Wet exit/Rescue skills are required.
I would recommend at least a 12 foot boat with front and rear bulkheads.
Ability to paddle 7 to 11 miles.
Bring a snack for a stop somewhere.
The water should be pretty warm in this area and it may be pretty hot out also. Bring water and sun screen.

Please respond if you plan to attend so we know who to watch for at the put-in. It may be busy with the nice weather forecast.

Yeah... Sounds great!
Steve and I are up for it! We have heard a lot about the weir river but never been there!
Count on us at 8:30

And thanks for helping out with the pm thing. Little by little I am finding my way.

My husband Al and I would love to come along too. Never paddled there before. Is there a way to reach you in case we run into a problem?
