Multi level / multi group from Fort Adam's, New Port 9/28
I am going to propose a trip to New Port Ri again this year.
6 of us went out last year and had a great trip and cookout at Fort Adams afterwards.
No guaranties but I'm predicting a repeat of last year with flat calm water, bright sun and no wind.
The objective is to group up with other paddlers that have similar skills and interest.
It would be great to see some of the 8-12 mile paddlers come out and explore the inner harbor and light houses.
Please see the listing from last year.

Sounds like fun. I'll put it on my calendar.
Re: Multi level / multi group from Fort Adam's, New Port 9/2
This looks WONDERFUL... I would DEFINITELY Love to be in on this paddle also! Newport area is beautiful... and cook out, too... what more could I ask for (except sunny + 80 degrees- I'll take 1/2 of that wish). Will watch board for 'cookout' and other details! Oh, I'm in for the Biggie (long trip).
Still Mind, Relaxed Breath, Pure Attention...

Regarding the cookout; Last year I brought a small charcoal grill for all to use. There were some communal snacks, but we basically just cooked our own. I am open to other suggestions.

Looking forward to it. For those who are considering this trip: its fun with awesome views from the git-go....well put together (thanks to Ken and Kit)..a very great way to enter Fall paddling-time. Food wise, I will have stuff for the bar-bi, and will bring a batch of communal "Wild Turkey Chocolate Chip Cookies" (just made that one up). Steve

Re: Multi level / multi group from Fort Adam's, New Port 9/2
Last year we managed to drop a name to avoid paying the $5.00/pp. landing fee for the Rose Island Light House. The view was spectacular! I cant drop name drop again this year. So let all bring 5 bucks to donate to the Rose Island Lighthouse Preservation Society

All,
The forecast for Saturday is looking "GREAT"! Brisk in the morning and warming to high sixties-70 deg.
The basic details of the paddle for this year:
Depart from Fort Adams boat ramp
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Fort ... s&t=m&z=15
Beach briefing 0945
Launch time 10:00
Depending on the sea condition we will either go around the fort or head north and under the bridge at the northern end of the harbor.
I would like, if everyone is comfortable with the sea conditions to head to Rose Island Lighthouse for lunch (landing fee and tour the light house=$5.00).
upon our return we will load the boats, clean up and have a cookout. I'll bring a small charcoal grill.
Currently 4 have committed, plus Kit and I.
And we may have a guest appearance by some AMC paddlers.
To get to Fort Adams simply follow the signs once you get into down town New Port. After entering the park stay right and the boat ramp will be very obvious.
If you are still coming please confirm, thanks
You may PM me to get my cell and email if you don't have it.
It will be brisk in the AM so please bring cold water gear and bring warm cloths.
Wet exit/Rescue skills are required. Ability to paddle 8-10 mile or if 3 or more paddlers would like to go longer, have at it.
Ability to paddle at a 3+ mph speed for 4 hours with breaks.
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat. Bulkheads or flotation front and back required.

Great news!
1- Weather is looking awesome
2- I have recruited Rick Hens to lead the Red trip. Many of you know Rick and should feel confident with such a skilled leader. He has outline a trip that should be about 13-15 miles.
The rough outline of the trips is that both groups will head North from Fort Adams along the inside of Goat Island, this will allow both groups to cross the main Newport Harbor channel at the same time, continuing up into Coasters Island Harbor. The red group will continue North to Gould Island west to Connecticut Is. South to the bridge and somehow East back to Fort Adams. From Coasters Harbor the green group will asses the situation and possibly head to Rose Island for lunch if conditions are favorable. The green group will return along the Newport water front where you will find many interesting photo opps.
General Requirements:
PFD
Spay Skirt
Wet exit/Rescue skills are required. if you wet exit assistance reentering your boat is mandatory!
Ability to paddle per your selected group. green 7-10 miles in protected waters, Red 15 miles with conditions
I would recommend at least a 15 foot boat. Bulkheads or flotation front and back required.
Bring plenty of water, snacks and a lunch. Sunscreen will hopefully be needed also.
warm cloths
Red group participants must agree to some simple requirements:
The 2 boat buddy system
no more that 2 boats from your buddy
no group more than 2 boat lengths from another group
If anyone else would like to join please post and all should check this thread prior to getting in the car on Saturday morning.

It was a great day to paddle, and combined with the sightseeing and a barbeque to end the day, it could not have been better. Thanks Ken for putting together this trip. I'll try to find some time soon to edit and post some of the photos taken .
